Want to Go Private?
Sarah Littman

A while ago, I read the book Want to Go Private by Sarah Littman. The main character Abby, Has always been taught the dangers of the internet. But when she meets Luke- suddenly the rules no longer apply. She  becomes drawn to Luke, and thinks about him all the time. But when she finally meets him in the real world, he proves to be not everything he said he was, and soon Abby goes missing.

I liked this book, but it was also very, very graphic. At times I really just wanted to put the book down, but the truth hurts. This very detailed story really gets you thinking, and shows you what too often happens to young, naive, girls on the internet. The very clear theme, was to be safe on the web, and to really think before you make a decision that can change your whole life. The best character was probably Abby, at first all you see is a very naive girl, but as her story progresses, you see courage and determination to change her life for the better. The author, Sarah, wanted to write this book when she heard the story of a girl who met a guy online, and sadly never returned home safely.

“...I grab my laptop and log on to ChezTeen.com. Within minutes, I'm surrounded by friends, even though I've never met any of them. There, I can pretend that my first day of school was fantastic, because no one is going to know anything different. I can be anyone I want to be when I'm online and I don't even have to wear makeup.”

This quote is a very good example, that shows one of many reasons why so many relationships of young people happen over the internet. They can be who they want, and aren't seen they way their actual peers see them.
