Ready Player One By Earnest Cline Part Two (2 thirds done)
Where we left off Parzival has collected the Copper Key, and now he must clear the first gate. The clue to the first gate was written on the key. He managed to decipher it because the clue was about his first video game Halliday played Dungeons and Daggorath. A world coded by Mr. Halliday himself was made. It was a replica of the exact town he lived in with every detail down to a science. Parzival made his way to the house and started playing Dungeons and Daggorath with the Copper Key which is important. He beat the game easily, but after that he his avatar got sucked into a movie WarGames. He had to site the lyrics word for word or lose. This wasn't a challenge because he knew everything about the '80s. Halliday made a almanac of every 80's thing that grabbed his interest. Parzival studied it again and again. He would watch countless hours of T.V about the '80s. After he cleared the first gate it gave Parzival the clue to the Jade key. "The captain conceals the Jade Key in a dwelling long neglected But you can only blow the whistle once all the trophies are collected". A fellow competitor Art3mis (who he met earlier) also has gotten the copper key and cleared the first gate. IOI a business dedicated to destroying OASIS has offered him a job there for two million dollars... Parzival declines. Five minutes later an explosion at his trailer killed his aunt and uncle (his only family left). Luckily he wasn't close to them and he was away in his base (a van hidden in his neighborhood). Parzival scared for his life moves away on a train and into an apartment. While on the train he gets back on OASIS and finds out that IOI has cleared the first gate, but not before his best friend Aech, and Daito, and Shoto cleared it first. Later they all meet up and a secret OASIS room and discuss the Jade Key. Unfortunately the don't get anywhere. After that Parzival finds himself less focused on the key and more focused on Art3mis and vice versa. They spend weeks together on OASIS finding out more about each other. Some time passed and they got an invitation from Ogden Morrows (James Haillidays best friend and co worker) for his 73rd birthday party. They gladly accept. While at the party Art3mis says that she can't be with Parzival anymore because she wants to focus on getting the key. This spirals Parzival into a deep depression which he finds himself in for a while, but desperate to prove himself he goes back to working on the riddle. With Art3mis, Aech, Daito, and Shoto finding the Jade Key Parzival is once again spiraled into a deep depression. Aech Parzivals best friend comes to his rescue and gives him the info to get the Jade Key. He got from Aech that he needed to go to the planet Brundell a re-creation of a old text game called Zork. "in a dwelling long neglected" was Zork! The Game started him off in a house that hadn't originally been in Zork. He found a box of Captain Crunch. He opened it to find the whistle, but he couldn't use it yet because he hadn't beat Zork yet and the riddle says "But you can only blow the whistle one all the trophies are collected. It must be talking about Zork! He beat Zork after thirty minutes of doing tedious tasks. He now has the Jade Key, but now so do IOI. Find out what happens next in my next blog! I think this book grabs the readers attention and what let go. I feel like I can't stop reading as funny as it sounds. I think this book can inspire some new ideas maybe a game like it or just something complex like it. I see a theme of not giving up and to not be distracted. I think Parzival has become more mature because he got rid of his depression and started focusing on the contest more. "Suddenly, I wanted to win the contest more than ever. Not just for the money. I wanted to prove myself to Art3mis". I think this is an inspiring quote because it goes along with the theme to not give up and to not get distracted.
