The Clique Series: Charmed and Dangerous Mason Redlinger Blog Post 2
Charmed and Dangerous is about 3 "cliques" in middle school and tells how they join together to be 1 "clique" told by Lisi Harrison. I'm almost halfway through the book and all the girls are telling their stories about what they did for New Years Eve. This book is good but it's kinda confusing because there are so many characters. I think that the author wrote this because she had already written the series so she wanted to write a prequel for the series. I think the theme for this book is to find out who your true friends and who you can and can't trust. My favorite character is Alicia because she isn't self-centered like all the rest of them. A quote from this book is "whatever" and "ehmagawd" because they say that a lot. My question for this book is how they all met in the first place.

Want to Go Private?
Sarah Littman
I liked this book, but it was also very, very graphic. At times I really just wanted to put the book down, but the truth hurts. This very detailed story really gets you thinking, and shows you what too often happens to young, naive, girls on the internet. The very clear theme, was to be safe on the web, and to really think before you make a decision that can change your whole life. The best character was probably Abby, at first all you see is a very naive girl, but as her story progresses, you see courage and determination to change her life for the better. The author, Sarah, wanted to write this book when she heard the story of a girl who met a guy online, and sadly never returned home safely.
“...I grab my laptop and log on to ChezTeen.com. Within minutes, I'm surrounded by friends, even though I've never met any of them. There, I can pretend that my first day of school was fantastic, because no one is going to know anything different. I can be anyone I want to be when I'm online and I don't even have to wear makeup.”
This quote is a very good example, that shows one of many reasons why so many relationships of young people happen over the internet. They can be who they want, and aren't seen they way their actual peers see them.

Becca Fitzpatrick
I recently finished the book, Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. The main character Nora, meets a mysterious boy by the name of Patch. Soon her life is put into danger as two fallen angels compete for their human vessel-Nora.
I personally love this book. Hush Hush is a dark, paranormal story with an ending you would never expect. This book quickly pulls you in, and never lets go. The theme is Nephilim, which are a race that are half human, and half fallen angel. The best character- in my opinion- was Patch. In the beginning his whole goal, is to use Nora as a sacrifice for his human body. And by the end, he becomes more caring and understanding of the nephilim race. Becca Fitzpatrick decided to write this book, when she became really interested in paranormal matters, such as angels.
Nora- "Name?"
Patch- "Call me Patch. I mean it, Call me"
This is my one of my many favorite quotes from the story that shows one of Patch's many attempts at attempting Nora to trust him.

Have you ever wanted something so bad you risk everything to get it? This is what happened to the people who lost their lives on Mt. Everest. The guides, Rob Hall and Scott Fisher each wanted a piece of the commercialization of the mountain. They wanted to be the best guides; the guides that could be counted on to get their clients to the top. They even combined forces so that they could compete against the guides from all the other countries. Rob Hall worried that one of the less competent teams might "blunder into a bad jam, " and his group would have to rescue them. Ironically, it was Rob and Scott's group that needed rescued.
The clients wanted to get to the summit. They each wanted to look down from the top of the world. Doug Hansen was Rob Hall's friend who failed to reach the summit. Rob ignored his own rule to turn back at 2:00 no matter what! Doug kept going. Rob made the fatal decision to follow Doug up to the top so Doug could get his dream. They got caught in the storm and died.
Scott Fisher wanted to be the best guide. He let the people who were suppose to be working for him helping him get clients up the mountain do their own thing. He ended up taking a sick client down the mountain, then he climbed back up the mountain. He was too exhausted to go on, but he ignored that. He said, "I'm invincible." But he wasn't.
One of the Sherpa's said, "Everest decides who reaches the top." That turned out to be true. Actually, reaching the top was only half the journey. It turned out that getting back down off the mountain was the biggest challenge.

Megan Beuter Blog post 3
I am reading Everlost by Neal Shusterman. I have read to page 102. The book Everlost is about three kids. Two of them die at the beginning of the book and the other has been dead for over a hundred years. The boy who has been dead the longest is called Lief, and the other two are Nick and Allie. Lief is in the woods, in a dead spot, where "after lights" can be without sinking into the ground. Lief finds Allie and Nick laying on the ground in the woods after hearing a car crash on the road. He tries to shake them awake, but they will not wake for exactly nine months. When they have awoken, naturally the first thing they want to know is how they got there and if there are survivors of the crash. So they start out for their homes to find out if their loved ones are still alive. On their way to their houses they notice a place that has hundreds of kids there just like them. And the place, Allie realizes, is the twin towers. I think this book is interesting, because it talks about a place where the kids aren't really dead; they are just in between heaven and earth. They have lost their way like many children do, and will remain that way until the end of time in Everlost. I think the author wrote this to make us think about the things that never leave people's minds, but are as of now not physically present. I think that this is what he wants us to think about because tragic things happen and those things can never really leave a person's mind, so one may wonder where do those things go? The theme of this book is the afterlife and what happens in it, and what happens to the things that are tragically taken away from us in life. Allie is the best character, because I can relate to her. She tries to reason things out logically, and notices patterns before others do. She also shows great amounts of confidence and security of herself; very passionate. Mary, the "queen" of after lights at the twin towers, writes in one of her books, "We are not like the living" "We are beyond life. We are better than life. We don't need to complicate our existence with a thousand meaningless activities, when one will do just fine..." This quotation is important because it shows you that in Everlost, the children do the same things over, and over everyday. The exact same way as it happened the day before. When they are put in new situations they do not know what to do. What will Allie do next? Will she try to escape? Will she go see her family even though she knows she isn't supposed to?
Unwind-post3-DakotaDoyle
I am currently reading the book, Unwind. It was written by
Neal Shusterman, and I just finished the book. Throughout this book there were
3 kids, who had ran away from society because they were chosen to be unwound by
their parents. Their names were Connor, Risa and Lev. They make it for about a
month until someone catches them. The 3 kids stayed in the basement of an
antique shop for about a week throughout their journey, and a very kind old
lady helped them majorly. She gave them a place to stay and food to eat. Towards
the end of the book, Lev becomes a clapper and blows up this building right as Connor
walks in. Connor was hurt, but it wasn’t severe. He was taken to the hospital and
he got one of his friend’s arm, who had been unwound. Risa was also in the
explosion, but she refused to go to the hospital and she was left paralyzed. I
think that this is a good book, because it shows how tough people’s lives can
really be, and the obstacles people have to overcome. I do think that this is a
good book, because he really makes it easy to understand. In my opinion the
authors motivation to write this story was to show how people’s lives change,
and endings do not always end out how you expected. The big idea in this book
is to show how your life changes in the blink of an eye, and sometimes your “true
friends” aren’t there for you in the
end. Now that I have read this whole
book , I think that the best character is Connor. He has done many things, and
had many strong opinions on what they should do. He thinks on the spree of the
moment, and most of the time it is the right idea. In the beginning he acted to
be some “tough” guy, but then as the story progressed, he learned to respect
people. A cool quotation from the book was, “you can’t change society, without
first changing laws.” I think this is important because its pretty much the way
of life. For example if you don’t change the speed limit sign (law) than the
citizens are going to keep doing what they did before. Sense I just finished
this book I don’t really have any questions, I am just curious about what they
next book is about!
The Hobbit Post 3
I have been reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien for a while now as I am nearing the end of what is an amazing adventure. I am currently on chapter XII, "Inside Information", which is one of the last in the book. So far Bilbo and the thirteen dwarves have crossed any dangers that have been set in their path. Now they are standing on the doorstep of the mountain that holds the dragon guarding the valuable riches they have conquered the distant lands for, and Bilbo isn't ready to give up just yet. He has considered turning back thousands of times, yet pressing on in each case, and he's not going to leave when his motivation is right in front of him. Yet I am just dying to know if the dwarves and Bilbo will be able to conquer the mighty dragon that has destroyed one of the largest cities in the land in one day. So far this book is amazing. It is easily one of my favorite books of all time. This could be because it is about a hobbit that showed no courage at all, then when traveling around the nation, he became one of the most valuable people in the group of fourteen. It is amazing how great of J. R. R. Tolkien has made. I think it never would have been published if he didn't show the need to share his imagination with others. That was most likely his motivation while writing this book. It is also an interesting theme Tolkien has fit into this adventure novel. I haven't read many books where a cowardly man was forced to go on an adventure and ended up gaining a lot from it. That's why the theme is that no matter who you are, your are capable of great accomplishments. Just like Bilbo, who is still my favorite character in the book. This is because he has changed so much. It is obvious to see that he has overcome many of his fears and enemies, making him an even better man (or hobbit) than he was at the beginning of the story. One interesting quote from the story is," Already he was a very different hobbit from the one that had run out without a pocket-handkerchief from Bag-End long ago." This was from the narrator (Bilbo) and it shows that Bilbo really had changed from the beginning. I just want to know if Bilbo and all thirteen dwarves will ever see Gandalf again?
Blog Post 3
I am reading Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter. It is the fifth book of the Gallager Girls series. I have finished the book. In the first chapter the main character, Cammie (who goes to a school for spies), is rescued from the Alps where she woke up after being gone for around 4 months. At the end of the previous book, Cammie left her school where her mom is headmaster, to discover who is tring to kidnap and/or kill her. She knows an ancient terrorist group called the Circle of Cavan is after her but is doesn't know why. She returnes to school where everyone stares at her and her friends are distant. She tries to start over and forget what happens. Its kind of easy for considering the last thing she remember is leaving school at the start of summer. Now Cammie has been shot at by the Circle, so she now knows that they don't need her alive anymore. She discovers that over the summer she was in Rome, so her, two of her friends, and her Aunt decide to go to Italy to figure out why she went there. Once in Rome, she goes to a bank where she discovers she started an safety box. In her box is her dad's journal that she thought she lost. Later she discovers there is list that has a name of all the leaders of the circle. She finds a map that tells her the list is in a manison in Ireland, so they go there to find it. Once she finds it, she is attacked by the circle, and the list falls into the ocean. Back at school, she realized that shes known the list all along, and on that list is her teacher. He brain washes her and she is going to junp off the roof when her mom and friends save her.
I think the book is good so far because there are questions that still need to be answered and that keeps you reading. I think this idea of a book is also good because the idea of spies is interesting to the reader. I believe the writer wrote the book because she has a passion for writing and so when the idea came to her to write it, she did. I think this because on her website it says she always wanted to be and writer, then later the idea came to her while misinterpreting a t.v. show. The theme I fell while rading is family and safety. The main charater left school to answer her questions, but she didn't bring along her friends or family. She risked her own safety so her friends wouldn't get hurt and now they are annoyed she left them and angry with her because they feel she was being selfish. I think the best charater is obviously the main character, Cammie. She has faults unlike how her peers seem, and she is changing thoughout the series, so it makes her interesting. She is much more mature now and believes she can do things on her own now.
"For the first time in months, my three best friends and I were alone. How many hours had we spent wolking those halls together in the early morning or middle of the night? Sneaking. Planning. Testing our limits and ourselves. But standing there, we were all a little too perfect. It was as if we were strangers, trying to make that good impression.
'Stop staring at me like that,' I told them when it finally became too much
'Like how?' Liz asked.
'Like you didn't think you'd ever see me again,' I said.
'You don't get it do you?' Bex's voice was more hiss than whisper. 'Until forty-eight hours ago, we didn't.'
I think that quote is important because it explains the feel of the book. I question I have is will Cammie ever get her memory back? and Will the Circle of Cavan kill her now that they don't need her alive anymore? Will more double agents be discovered in the next book?

I am reading the book The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. I am on Chapter Three (page 40). This book is about a teenage girl named Macy who always loved to run and had lots of friends. On the day after Christmas she went out for a run a little after her dad left to run. When she was almost to her house she saw a man on the road trying trying to give CPR to her dad. He had a heart attack and died. Now she is trying to cope with her dad's death and help her mom take care of her real estate business. Since her dad died she doesn't have any friends and she never wants to run ever again. I think that the book is kind of boring, but I haven't read very far. The author wanted to write this book to show kids how they can cope with a tragedy like this and how some kids deal with problems. I think that this was her motivation because it says a lot of stuff about how she deals with it. The theme of this book is regret. Before her dad went out to run, he tried to wake her up so they could run together. She slept in a few minutes and that was why he got so far ahead of her. She thinks that if she would have woken up she could've saved him or at least said goodbye. Macy is the best character because she has been through a lot, but always tries to stay positive and look on the bright side. She changed after her dad died because she didn't want people to feel bad for her so she quit hanging out with her friends and she quit running."There were a lot of ways to remember my dad. But I thought he would have especially liked that." Macy says that in the book. She likes to keep the little things that always made her dad happy because it helps her remember him. I am wondering if she will ever be like she was before her dad died and if she will ever run again?
Why I fight
I was reading this book called Why I Fight. I read the whole book and it is a story about a boy who burned his house down and him and his family went to live in and his uncle came to take him on the road with him. They stay at his uncles friends houses along the way and they train him to fight so they can have money to survive but he and his uncle start to grow apart and tensions rise on the road and he soon moves back with his mom and dad. I think it is a good book and it shows how hard it must be to live on the road with no home. I think the authors motivation to writing this book was to show people how tough it is not having a home and having to make a living with no real job.
gym candy Ben Wilkerson
The book I read is called Gym Candy by Carl Deuker. I read the whole book and the story is about a boy named Mick Johnson and his dad was a star running back in college so the only thing he knows is football. as he enters high school he wants to get bigger so he can get the starting running back spot. So he resorts to using steroids over the summer and comes back weighing almost 200 pounds. His best friend gets suspicious and finds out the truth. Well Mick can't take it and he goes crazy and ends up hurting himself. I think this is a good book because it shoes the struggle that high school football players go through. I think the reason why the author wrote this book is to get across to young athletes that winning isn't everything and you don't have to cheat to be successful. I think Mick is the best character because he is the most humble teenager iv'e ever seen and his dedication to football is amazing. A quote from the book is "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing". And that plays an important role in this story.

Parker Mueller Friday Night Lights 2
I am at page 237/366 in Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger. In this part of the book Billingsly was beat out of his position by Comer because he kept fumbling and and he was not playing well at all. Then the coach put Comer in and Comer ran for over one hundred yards and scored two touchdowns. Billingsly is very upset and he claims that Comer only received the spot because he is black.
The next chapter in the book, Black and White, shows how racism was still a big problem in Odessa. It explains that the blacks and whites lived in different parts of town and therefore played for different high school football teams. I think the author is trying to show that racism still existed and how segregated some communities were. "It took two painful years to find someone willing to sell the first black family a home" It shows how badly blacks were treated. I wonder who will win the state championship and who else will lose their starting position.

Ready Player One By Earnest Cline Part 3 (book done)
With the key now in Parzival's possession he now has the riddle too. "Continue your test by taking the test". With the rampage of IOI getting the Jade Key they managed to kill Daito in OASIS... And real life. Parzival could not find out what the riddle was. Instead IOI managed to get to the second gate and clear it. With Parzival wasting his real money on OASIS equipment we is now in dept, but not just to anybody, but to IOI. In the meantime Parzival has also figured out what the riddle means. Parzival Scans the key and discovers that he must beat "Blade Runner" one of Halliday's favorite games. Instead of the two dimension version of the game it was remastered to be a three dimensional version of the game. Parzival barely defeats the game with one life to spare. He got the Crystal Key and he emails it Aech, Art3mis, and Shoto. The crystal key tells him he needs to got to Castle Anorak and unlock it with the crystal key there, but you can't just unlock it you need to find out what the riddle means first. The riddle is "The third key is clearest crystal and cannot be unlocked alone", but before Parzival can celebrate IOI breaks into his apartment. He quickly self destructs his OASIS console before they could find out he is Parzival. They take him into the workplace and force him to work there to pay off his dept. Doing some hacking at "his bedtime" he found some files about Aech, Art3mis, and Shoto. He finds out the Sorrento (head of getting the three keys) has a plan of killing Art3mis and Shoto the next day. He uploads this data onto a three terabyte USB, and somehow manages to escape the building. Desperate to get on OASIS he finds a internet cafe and goes in. He logs onto his OASIS account and Aech, Art3mis, and Shoto all log into their base. He tells the guys to get out of dodge, but they don't know how. Ogden Morrow (Hallidays Co-worker) who has been spying on them comes up with an idea. He tells them that he his sending private jets to them to pick them up and take them to his mansion. Before hand Parzival emails every single OASIS user the files on how IOI was going to kill them and tells them to join him in the final fight. They gladly oblige. With a new sense of confidence the private jet picks him up and he is feeling pretty good. When he gets there he goes straight to his OASIS console and logs in. He sees that almost half of OASIS users are there to help fight IOI with him. After an epic battle Shoto is defeated, but Parzival, Aech, and Art3mis are still alive. They open the door by singing one of the Schoolhouse Rock songs that has to do with three, but when the open the door the Catalyst (a artifact that wipes out everything on one planet) is activated. Lucky for Parzival while he was depressed he played a perfect game of Pac Man and earned an extra life. Parzival finds himself in another '80s movie and game that he beats. Parzival has now cleared all three gates. A simulation shows up of Halliday give Parzival invincibility and his billion dollars. Parzival logs out of OASIS and gets to meet Art3mis and the others in person. Parzival goes up to Art3mis and talks to her. They fall and love and finally Parzival has found the thing he has been looking for... Happiness. This book was fantastic honestly a random junior came up to me and said "read this". So taking his advice I read it, and all I have to say is wow... Just wow. AMAZING! When I grow up I want to be a computer software engineer and this will certainly make me think about things and I sure hope it makes some other "computer geeks" think about things too! Parzival at the end of this story followed the theme to never give up and to pursue your dreams. He has matured to a point of adulthood and he is now a worthy adult. He has never given up after IOI taking him, Art3mis breaking up with him, and so much more. A cool quote is "It occured to me that for the first time in as long as I could remember, I had absolutely no desire to log back on to OASIS". This is a cool quote because it showed how much he has matured and found his happiness. Im Cameron Pachow and thanks for reading my blog!

Parker Mueller Friday Night Lights
I am reading "Friday Night Lights" by H.G. Bissinger. The theme is to never give up. I have read to page 94 out of 366. This story takes place in a Texas city called Odessa in 1988, Odessa is a small town with a big football team. The Permian High School football team, the Panthers, are trying to win the state championship. In one of their first games their star running back is seriously injured and is out for the rest of the season. Now there are players competing for the starting spot.
The best character is Don Billingsly. He is competing to be a running back. He is a senior and his dad was a star running back so everyone has high expectations. He has more faith in himself after good games. He gets in fights often and has drinking problems. "Don had become the spitting image of his dad." "The same power-packed frames coiled and ready to strike if the wrong button got grazed" It shows he is just like his dad and they both have short tempers and are strong.
Also competing for the running back position is Comer, he is stronger and faster than Billingsly. Billingsly doesn't like him because he is black and he is threatening his position. Who will get the starting spot?
It is a good book because it is exciting and it tells a true story. I think the author wrote this to tell how important football is to some people.

The Shining Bloge By Walker
The Shining begins with Jack Torrance being interviewed for a job as a caretaker for the Overlook Hotel. The hotel is closing for the winter, but can't be left unattended. Jake’s job will be to stay in the hotel through the winter. He will bring his family with him. Ullman, the Overlook's manager, wants to make sure that Jake and his family know they will be completely isolated when the snow starts falling. Jake assures Ullman that he and his family will be fine.
Ullman tells Jake about the history of the Overlook Hotel. In 1970 the caretaker, Delbert Grady, murdered his wife and two girls while in a drunken rage. Ullman knows Jake was fired from his teaching job after he lost his temper, and that he is a recovering alcoholic. Jake assures him that both his temper and his drinking are under control. Ullman gives him the job but only because of Jake's friend that is an owner of there Overlook Hotel wants him to have the job.
While at the job interview Danny and Wendy, his wife and kid. She is thinking about when Jake broke Danny's arm, and hopes he can keep a lid on his temper this time. While Wendy worries, Jake is taking a tour or the Overlook, and is told to check the boiler frequently or it will explode.
Danny is sitting on a curb in front of his house thinking about his dad which he knows isn't thinking about drinking as Wendy fears. The only reason Danny is worried about Jake drinking is that it might lead to his parents getting a divorce. When Danny thinks hard he can see Tony, who picked him up off the curb. When he does Danny can see a big building wna something chasing him with a mallet. In a room he sees the RedRum written on a mirror, in another room he see’s a women died in a bath tube.

Cam. P Ready Player One pt 2
Ready Player One By Earnest Cline Part Two (2 thirds done)
Where we left off Parzival has collected the Copper Key, and now he must clear the first gate. The clue to the first gate was written on the key. He managed to decipher it because the clue was about his first video game Halliday played Dungeons and Daggorath. A world coded by Mr. Halliday himself was made. It was a replica of the exact town he lived in with every detail down to a science. Parzival made his way to the house and started playing Dungeons and Daggorath with the Copper Key which is important. He beat the game easily, but after that he his avatar got sucked into a movie WarGames. He had to site the lyrics word for word or lose. This wasn't a challenge because he knew everything about the '80s. Halliday made a almanac of every 80's thing that grabbed his interest. Parzival studied it again and again. He would watch countless hours of T.V about the '80s. After he cleared the first gate it gave Parzival the clue to the Jade key. "The captain conceals the Jade Key in a dwelling long neglected But you can only blow the whistle once all the trophies are collected". A fellow competitor Art3mis (who he met earlier) also has gotten the copper key and cleared the first gate. IOI a business dedicated to destroying OASIS has offered him a job there for two million dollars... Parzival declines. Five minutes later an explosion at his trailer killed his aunt and uncle (his only family left). Luckily he wasn't close to them and he was away in his base (a van hidden in his neighborhood). Parzival scared for his life moves away on a train and into an apartment. While on the train he gets back on OASIS and finds out that IOI has cleared the first gate, but not before his best friend Aech, and Daito, and Shoto cleared it first. Later they all meet up and a secret OASIS room and discuss the Jade Key. Unfortunately the don't get anywhere. After that Parzival finds himself less focused on the key and more focused on Art3mis and vice versa. They spend weeks together on OASIS finding out more about each other. Some time passed and they got an invitation from Ogden Morrows (James Haillidays best friend and co worker) for his 73rd birthday party. They gladly accept. While at the party Art3mis says that she can't be with Parzival anymore because she wants to focus on getting the key. This spirals Parzival into a deep depression which he finds himself in for a while, but desperate to prove himself he goes back to working on the riddle. With Art3mis, Aech, Daito, and Shoto finding the Jade Key Parzival is once again spiraled into a deep depression. Aech Parzivals best friend comes to his rescue and gives him the info to get the Jade Key. He got from Aech that he needed to go to the planet Brundell a re-creation of a old text game called Zork. "in a dwelling long neglected" was Zork! The Game started him off in a house that hadn't originally been in Zork. He found a box of Captain Crunch. He opened it to find the whistle, but he couldn't use it yet because he hadn't beat Zork yet and the riddle says "But you can only blow the whistle one all the trophies are collected. It must be talking about Zork! He beat Zork after thirty minutes of doing tedious tasks. He now has the Jade Key, but now so do IOI. Find out what happens next in my next blog! I think this book grabs the readers attention and what let go. I feel like I can't stop reading as funny as it sounds. I think this book can inspire some new ideas maybe a game like it or just something complex like it. I see a theme of not giving up and to not be distracted. I think Parzival has become more mature because he got rid of his depression and started focusing on the contest more. "Suddenly, I wanted to win the contest more than ever. Not just for the money. I wanted to prove myself to Art3mis". I think this is an inspiring quote because it goes along with the theme to not give up and to not get distracted.

I am reading the book Unwind. This book was written by Neal Shusterman. I am currently on page 409. So far in this book there are 3 kids, who are unwinds and they are on the run. These kids (Lev, Connor, and Risa) are trying to make it on the run until they are 18 so they dont have to be unwound. Some of the trouble that they have had:1- They picked up a storked baby and the 3 of them now have to care for it when they can hardly take care of themsleves. 2-Lev, the youngest, escaped from them and then told the prinicple of the school that they were hiding in, that they were hiding in the bathroom. They had to escape pure chaos. 3- The 2 of them have to stay in the basement of an old antique store, to escape all of the drama. I think that this is a very good book, because it really makes you think about what you would be doing if it were you in this position. I think that the author wrote this to show what some of the things are going to be like in the near future, and what our techonology will be able to do. I think that the author is trying to get us to understand the difficulty of some peoples lives, and how lucky you truley are just to be alive. The best character, in my opinion, is Risa. She is my favorite character because on top of taking care of herself, she now is taking care of the baby. And she has street intelligence, so she has gotten them out of some very close outcomes. Risa has changed becuase she learned that she needs to trust people, even if its not what her heart tells her to do. Connor once said, "If we dont all have our hearts in this, than we arent going to succeed. I think that this is important, becuase it shows the importance of a team. If your whole team isnt involved, than it is going to be very difficult to be able to do what you are trying to do. The biggest question that I have is, Are they going to make it until they are 18? Who is going to come in their way? What really happens in an unwinding studio?

Four Days to Glory Mason Redlinger Blog Post 1
Four Days To Glory By Mark Kreidler
I'm about a 1/4 through the book and been talking about Jay(Linn-Mar Wrestler) and how he has won 3 state championships in his weight class and is going for a 4th his senior year. It's also talked about former wrestlers in Iowa like Dan Gable and others and how wrestling is a big part of Iowa. I think Kreidler wrote this book because he wanted to tell people how big wrestling is in Iowa and how it's a big part of some schools, including Linn-Mar. This book tells the truth about Iowa wrestling including having cutting weight and the harsh practices. Jay Borschel is the main character and he is a former Linn-Mar wrestler. I think a good quote from this is "It's all part of the game" because no matter how good Jay is, other teams still forfeit against him so they don't get hurt, and when it comes to forfeits,"It's all part of the game."

Payton Hancox Post 2 Mockingjay
I am reading the book Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. I just finished the book. The book was about a girl named Katniss who is leading a rebel army against the Capitol in an attempt to rid the Capitol of their power and to assassinate President Snow. She trained for the rebel army and was in a sharpshooting squad. The rebels went to the Capitol and rescued Peeta and the other tributes that didn't escape the Hunger Games arena. After Peeta got back they figured out he was tortured and now hates Katniss. Gradually he starts to get better and by the end of the book he's almost back to normal. The rebels win the war and President Snow gets killed. After everything settles down Katniss and Peeta go back to District 12 and start a family together. The book was really good and had a good solution. I didn't like that it left you wondering what the rest of Katniss's life would be like. The author wanted to show her perspective of could happen in the future and to educate people of how good of a life they actually have. The theme is courage and determination. Katniss is the main character and she shows many examples of courage and determination throughout the book. Peeta Mellark is the best character in the book. He has changed because he was tortured in the Capitol and he doesn't remember some things that happened in the past. He has also grown more mature and has a better appreciation for what he has. "I'll tell them how I survive it. I'll tell them that on bad mornings, it feels impossible to take pleasure in anything because I'm afraid it could be taken away. That's when I make a list in my head of every act of goodness I've ever seen someone do. It's like a game. Repetitive. Evan a little tedious after more than twenty years. But there are much worse games to play." She is saying she will tell that to her children and she is saying "there are much worse games to play" as in the Hunger Games. I want to know what her life will be like in the future and if Peeta and Katniss will ever get better or be the same?
Payton Hancox Post 1 Mockingjay
I am reading the book Mockingjay. This book is written by Suzanne Collins. I am currently on chapter 4 (page 50). So far this book is about a teenage girl from District 12 who volunteered for her sister in her first Hunger Games and won with Peeta, a boy from her home district. When they returned to their home they became great friends and later became engaged. Sadly they both got drawn again to be in the next Hunger Games. Little do they know, all the tributes during these games do everything they can to protect Peeta and Katniss. The other tributes know that there is going to be a war and that Katniss and Peeta will be very important to the rebel cause. At the end Katniss blows up the arena and the rebels, the group fighting the Capitol, rescue her, but fail to rescue Peeta. On her way to the rebels' home in District 13, the Capitol blows up District 12. The few citizens who managed to escape traveled to District 13. They are now trying to adapt to the strict life in their new home, Katniss is trying to cope with her depression of losing Peeta while leading the war against the cruel Capitol. So far this book is good, but also a little boring because not much is happening. I think the author wrote this to show people what it's like in the mind of someone who has experienced horrible things. The theme is how good we have it today and how bad it could be. The best character is Katniss because she is determined and isn't scared of anything. She has changed from a normal teenager, to a tribute, and then to a mentally unstable patient who lives in the hospital. "Positioned on my dresser, that white-as-snow rose is a personal message to me. It speaks of unfinished business. It whispers, I can find you. I can reach you. Perhaps I am watching you now." That quote was thought by Katniss when she visited her home after it was bombed. It's a sign from President Snow, leader of the Capitol, that he is still watching her and he is trying to scare her. I am wondering if Peeta will ever come back from the Capitol and if she will ever get better?

Legend #2
I am reading Legend still and it is getting better. I am on page 180 and the book had just gotten better. Now June is going undercover as a street worker to try and find more things out about Day. While at a Skiz fight June gets in trouble by the mob and Day comes in and rescues her, but they don't know who each other is. So they camp out for a couple nights and start to grow on each other a little. But one night when Day went to sneak out and go see his family June sees him leave and she follows him to his house. The next day she had troops ordered to his families house and they took his family and killed his mom in the process. The author is trying to show how someone can betray you at anytime in your life. The best character in this book is still Day, because he is doing bad for the good of people. Also he protects his family in their time of need. "All of the wounded men were tended to or taken away, but the mother lay there on the pavement lifeless," said June. That shows that she was thinking about the people and not just the soldiers because she wanted them to help Day's mother instead of just letting her die. I wonder what they are going to do with Day.

Hunter Thompson Post 2 The Hobbit
I have been reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien for a while now in anticipation for the movie version to be released. I am currently on chapter XI entitled "On the Doorstep". So far Bilbo and the thirteen dwarves have made it as far as Lake Town after narrowly escaping the giant spiders living in the enchanted forest Mirkwood. Not to mention the fact that they were all captured by the wood elves that also live in the forest. Taken prisoner in the Wood Elves' castle, none of them dare try to escape due to the fact that it is impossible. Yet once again Bilbo comes to the rescue after narrowly missing the wood elves before taking the others hostage. Bilbo quietly retrieves all of the dwarves and they head down to the storage area in the castle where they once again narrowly escape the wrath of another dangerous enemy by leaving via small river. Except this time they are hidden in barrels, except for poor Bilbo who has to swim his way to shore. After they all wash up on shore and are all recovered from their barrels, they head for Lake Town. Upon arrival they are treated as kings for claiming to be the the King Under the Mountain. After being taken care of, they set sail for the mountain in which the dragon (and the treasure) is stored. So far this book is very captivating and awe-inspiring. I think this is due to the fact that I've never read a book as detailed and amazing as The Hobbit. I think Tolkien wrote this because he wanted to show the world what he was thinking at the time. This was probably his motivation because he had an imagination like no one else and probably knew it. I still think that Bilbo proves the fact that the theme in this book is, "no matter who you are, you can accomplish amazing feats". Bilbo is still my favorite character because he is the last person you would expect to overcome such great challenges. Yet since last my last blog post he has not really grown or changed that much. "Well! Here we are!...And I suppose we ought to thank our stars and Mr. Baggins. I am sure he has a right to expect it, though I wish he could have arranged a more comfortable journey. Still- all very very much at your service once more, Mr. Baggins. No doubt we shall feel properly grateful when we are fed and recovered." This is my favorite quote because it shows that the dwarves and Bilbo are still a team after all they have been through. Though my only question remains the same, why did Gandalf have to leave Bilbo and all thirteen dwarves behind?

Megan Beuter Blog Post 2
The book I am reading is UnWholly, the second book in the Unwind trilogy, by Neal Shusterman. I have read 284 pages in the book. The main characters are Connor, Risa, Lev, Starkey, Miracolina, and Camus. Starkey plots against Connor, and has began a Stork club that causes separation in the group of "Whollies". Risa went off in an ambulance in her wheelchair, to be sure that a "Wholly" teenager from the graveyard came back alive. But Risa doesn't ever return. Connor, as you know from the last book, is trying to govern the graveyard and save some soon-to-be unwinds from their homes just a day before the Juvenal cops would show up at their door. Miracolina is a tithe, but she is "saved" from her own fate just like a couple other teen-tithes. However, she doesn't accept this turn of events, nor does she accept the "un brainwashing" as she calls it. She finds a way to escape the hideout, and sets her plan into action as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Lev, the clapper who didn't clap, spends his time with Pastor Dan, whom only is referred to as "pastor" by Lev, and his older brother Marcus. However it doesn't last and Lev finds that some members of the ADR [Anti-Divisional Resistance] have made Lev appear as a "God-like" role model to the tithes who were saved by the ADR. Camus, preferably called Cam, is very unlike all the other characters. He is what some call a "Rewind." All of his parts come from more than a hundred unwinds. He has an intricate design of skin and hair colors that are arranged into a sort of "patch work quilt." Yet despite him being programmed with all the knowledge he could ever need, he had to make sense of all of it and pull it all together in order to function. I love this book. It holds my attention and keeps me fully engaged in the story. I always find myself unable to find a good place to stop. It also brings forth ideas that I hadn't thought much about before. The author wrote this to get the readers to think about the possible outcomes that could come from huge debates, that could eventually lead to war, such as abortion vs. no abortion. The book is centered around the "Heartland War," which was a war that fought over life rights. I think this is his motivation because this is his second book with the same theme. The theme of this book is unwinding, which is "the process through which an individual is dismantled. By law 99.4 percent of a person must be used and kept alive in transplant." Unwinding can happen between the ages of 13-17, as of the end of the Unwind book. The author wanted us to think about how the "war" between abortion vs. no abortion could possibly end in the very near future. Camus is the most interesting character because at the beginning he could barely talk and now he can do nearly everything perfectly. He becomes able to use his knowledge that was programmed to make decisions about and for himself. "I am more than the parts I am made of!" (pg. 144). Camus says this, and it is important because it is a point in the book where you have to decide for yourself whether he is indeed just parts or if he is an actual person.
Keegan Hess_Blog Post #2_Hunger Games
I am reading The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins wrote The Hunger Games trilogy. I have read all the way to page 142. What has happened is that it is the day before the games and they need to get ready and they need their sleep or they will not be ready. Katniss and Peeta are up on the roof getting air because they can't sleep. Katniss and Peeta feel very awkward around each other every since Peeta brought up that he liked Katniss. I thik that the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy. I think it is good because she has to fight for her life in a games between all the districts. The author wrote this because she had a good idea. People think of good ideas and write them down because they are interesting and had some of her friends proof read it before she published it. The theme is the future when the states are separated into twelve districts, how the future states will no longer be. Katniss because she is fierce and won't take crap from anyone that makes fun of her. Do the books from the trilogy take right off from the end of one book to the next book after it?

Legend
I am reading Legend written by Marie Lu right now. I am on page number 112 and I am already hooked on this book. So far in the book there is a sickness going around a far future America, and a 14 year old boy( Day) criminal's family has caught the plague. But while trying to steal the cure from a local hospital he killed a major general and the general's younger sister(June), a special trained soldier, is now going after Day to finally catch him. As of right I think this is a great book I have been hooked on it since page 20. It has a lot of action and is very saddening how America could turn out to be. I think the author wrote this just to show how two different people could come together to be friends. People rebelling the government are not all bad they have reason to rebel. I think Day is the best character in this story because he doesn't follow the government and he is a good criminal trying to save his family."No I am good I will be fine." June says this many times in the book and this shows that she can fight through many different situations and she won't give up. One question that I want to know is will Day get caught or not.

Dakota Doyle_Post1_ Unwind
I am reading the book "Unwind”. The author of this book
is Neal Shusterman. I am currently on chapter 14. (pg.255) So far this book is
about three kids- Lev, Connor, Risa. Lev was planned to be unwound from his
birth, Risa is has no parent and is being unwound so the orphanage doesn’t have
to pay extra money, and Connor has trouble in school and with the law. The
parents of all three of these kids have signed a paper to have them unwound.
After Conor finds out about his parents decisions he decides to run away, he
hops in a semi, and the driver drives him across the state overnight. The next
day his father calls his cell phone, which he then used to track Conor. Lev is
in the car on the way to the harvest camp when he sees a ton of cops up ahead;
they are all chasing after one person (Connor). Risa is in a school bus that soon
crashed because of all of this commotion. The three of these EWOL's,
unknowingly how, meet up, and now they are on the run. Their first plan was to
change their looks. They went door to door saying that they were doing a
fundraiser for their school, and they were collecting food and clothes for the
homeless. But, after Risa picks up a storked baby, at a random door step the
three are now faced with a much bigger problem than they were before! I think
this is a good book, because the author writes it like he is actually in the
situation, and it is easy to understand. I think the author wrote this story to
show that your life will not always go as planned, and sometimes you are going
to have to do the unexpected. The big idea in this story is that when you are
in trouble or a fight for your survival you have to do some things that you
would have never thought about doing before. In my opinion the best character
is Lev. He was taken hostage at the beginning of the book. Now, he is doing his
best to earn Connor and Risa's trust, but on the bus he wrote a note saying he
was kidnapped by unwinds, so someone will soon find it and report it. "You can't change laws without first
changing human nature" was said during this story. I think that this is a
cool quote, because if you really think about it, it makes 100% sense. Some of
the Questions that I have are- Will they make it until they are 18? Has anyone
caught on to them yet? What are Lev's parents thinking? What are harvest camps
like?

The name of the book I am reading is called Fallout written by Ellen Hopkins. I have read the whole book (662 pages). Basically the summary of what happened is that all of Kristina's children found out about each other and ended up meeting. I think the book was okay but it wasn't as interesting as I wish it would've been. The author wrote this book as a continuation to the series based off of her daughter; she wrote it to tell people about how dramatic it can be finding out you have other siblings you never knew about and meeting them. The theme is about how surprising and overwhelming it is finding out you have brothers and sisters that have been kept secret from you for as long as you can remember. Mrs. Hopkins wanted us to think about what that would feel like. In my opinion Hunter was the best character. He made mistakes but he fixed them the best he could and over all it felt like I could visualize and connect to him more than any other character. " Labels. Hate 'em. Mostly, I guess, because I've worn one or another pretty much forever." That is the quote I chose from my book; I chose it because I think a lot of people can agree with the quote and see it in their own life. I have only one question about my book and that would be what happens after the Christmas dinner but I guess I just have to wait till the next book comes out.

Hunter Thompson Post 1 The Hobbit
I am reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. I am currently reading chapter VIII, "Spiders and Flies".
So far a strange wizard named Gandalf had gathered fourteen others(thirteen of them dwarves and one normal hobbit named Bilbo) to embark on a journey of a life time. They have left off to set course for ultimate riches while encountering many mystical creatures that only Tolkien himself could imagine. Some of them friendly, but many dangerous. Right now, after Gandalf being forced to leave the journey, Bilbo, and all thirteen dwarves press on into the enchanted forest. What awaits them on the other side, or within the forest for that matter, is still a mystery. So far this book is amazing and so captivating every time I pick it up, I have to force myself to stop so I can get other things done. I think it so easily draws readers in like me because no one else could possible think of a world so amazing and magical as J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth. I think the reason Tolkien wrote this is because his imagination was like no other. Even by todays standards, the world he has created is so awe-inspiring, just imagine reading it when it first came out in 1937. This could have easily been the reason why he wrote it in the first place. I think Tolkien wanted us to think that even the smallest people in world can overcome giant goals that stand in our path. This theme can easily be proven through my favorite character in the book, Mr. Bilbo Baggins. He is the most interesting to me because no one really thinks much of him in the beginning, but they soon come to see that he is capable of nearly anything. Bilbo has changed so much since the beginning. He used to just tag along and crouch in fear for every enemy that crossed their path. No he has saved every one of them from death at least once, if not more.
One interesting quote from the book reads, ""Do we really have to go through?" groaned the hobbit. "yes, you do!" said the wizard, "if you want to get to the other side. You must either go through or give up your quest. There are no safe paths in this part of the world. "" I love this quote because it shows that even though Bilbo wants to quit, he keeps pressing on, knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The only thing I want to know is why did Gandalf have to leave the Dwarves and Bilbo halfway through the long journey?

I am reading Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter. It is the fifth book of the Gallager Girls series. I have read 200 pages out of the total 294 pages.

Into Thin Air Blog 2
Each chapter begins with where they are on the mountain, and a short story written by a past climber. At 16,200 feet, the description of Everest is formidable. Thomas Hornbein wrote: "All that one could see and feel and hear--of Icefall, moraine, avalanche, cold--was of a world not intended for human habitation. No water flowed, nothing grew--only destruction and decay...This would be home for the next several months until the mountain was climbed." This really shows how brave the climbers would be to try and climb to a place like that. Maybe it shows how foolish they were to try and think that they could.
What surprised me was the description of how commercialized Mt. Everest has become. When they got to the first base camp, there were 400 tents! There were expeditions from all over the world. Each expedition had a guide who was in charge of bringing the group to the top. Each group also had Sherpas, people native to the area who helped the groups get up the mountain. It seems like all a person had to do was come up with the $70,000 and they could be led right up the mountain.
It reminded me of a mountain we saw in Switzerland. If you paid $400.00 you could ride the train right up to the top. It didn't take any skill to get to the top. Even on Everest, one of the guides said, "It's attitude, not experience that counts." However, Rob Hall, another guide said, "I think it's pretty unlikely that we'll get through this season without something bad happening up high" (104).
We know something bad is going to happen, but we don't know what. We know that the attitudes seem carefree at this point. The "expert" guides may think that the inexperienced climbers will get hurt; but we know that it's the experts who will die.

The Unquiet Blog_Ally H
The Unquiet
Jeannine Garsee
I've recently finished the book The Unquiet by Jeannine Garsee. The main character, Rinn Jacobs moves to a new school, but finds out the haunting story of Annaliese. Soon as her and her friends continuously enter the tunnel, strange things happen, and they won't stop until Annaliese gets what she's been waiting for.
I thought this book was just...okay. The Unquiet always kept you guessing, but it always took a long time to get to the point. By the end, I was just glad to finally finish the book. The overall theme of this story was to be a good person not a bully, and to treat people the way you want to be treated. The best character- in my opinion- was Rinn. You see her transformation from a bad girl to a young adult trying to right the wrongs of Annaliese's enemies. The Author, Jeannine Garsee, was inspired to write this book, because when she was younger, her school had a "haunted" tunnel that was much like the one described in this book. Except the rumors spread about the girl who supposedly died there weren't quite as true.
"Sometimes when I dream, the deadliest moment in my life happens all over again. That’s when I’m given the chance to do things differently."
This quote reflects on some of the terrible descions made by Rinn in her life. But she's saying that dreams of these bad choices, and replays them the way they should have gone.

I've read most of it and im almost done with it. Laskshi lost her good friend and there house just got looked threw by americans and police and now there having to clean up the house of that . I think its very sad because Laskshmi was sold into a whore house. The author wanted to show how women are treated in other country. Its basically showing how parents sell there kids into prostitution. Laskshmi is the best character ans she grown alot through this book shes learned to deal with men having sex with her. Is there going to be another book ? " I'll bet it was the Americans". It shows how they dont like Americans there scared of them.

Ready Player One: Cameron Pachow
Cameron Pachow First Blog
I am reading a book called Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I am currently 119 pages in out of about 400 pages. The story starts with a contest on a virtual reality system called OASIS. OASIS is kind of like Google Earth, but much more complex. You get a visor (which make it seem you are actually there), and heptic gloves (which allow you feel inside the OASIS). The contest was made by the same person who made OASIS a mad, but brilliant person named James Halliday. When he died the contest was released giving away his fortune of a billion dollars and some gold up for grabs, but there's a catch... You have to find it. With more than a million worlds to explore this is going to be a hard treasure hunt. There are three keys up to obtain, the keys are the copper key, the jade key, and the crystal key. But you must find the copper key first, and here's the riddle. "The Copper Key awaits explorers in a tomb filled with horrors But you have to learn if you hope to earn a place among high scorers". When the main character Mr.Wade whose OASIS name is Parzival (named after the person who found the holy grail) deciphers the riddle he's astonished. He finds out he has being going to the that planet every day. Ludos a planet where you can go for k-12 . He deciphers the riddle mostly by the part where it says "but you have to learn if you hope to earn a place among high scorers", and what better place to learn then Ludos! Eventually Parzival finds the way to the tomb and goes in. He finds himself approached by Acererak an enemy in the Dungeons and Dragons game a "tomb filled with horrors". Instead of having Parzival (a weak level four warrior) fight him he faces him in the '80s game joust (a game where you ride a bird and try to knock each other off into a lava pit). Best two out of three games Parzival loses the first, but comes back to win the other two. Parzival then obtains the copper key with only two more keys to get the competition is about to get fierce. So far I think this is a well written book with lots of things to be interested in. He makes it like you feel like in the story with him, and it just really sucks you in. I think the author wrote this to inspire new ideas and to really make us think what is to come with future technology. So far I think the theme is about not giving up and to just pursue your dreams. The two main characters so far are Parzival and Aech. Aech is Parzivals' best friend and also a rival gunter (what the treasure hunters are called in the book). Right now both characters haven't really changed or grown yet. A cool quote is "The moment I started looking for the keys my life wasn't so bleak". I think that is a cool quote because this is really when Parzival finds his real purpose in life. I am curious about what inspired the author to write this book and what kept him motivated.

I am reading The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins is the author of The Hunger Games Series. I have read two thirds of the first book. What happened is that Katniss volunteered to take her sister Prim spot in the hunger games. The spot that i am at right now is where Katniss is doing interviews with the gamesmakers, after she shot the apple out of the pig when showing her skills to them and she got a score of eleven. I think this book is very interesting because i really didn't try to take the time into reading the book or watch the movie. I think this author thought of this because she had a point of view of the United States in the distance future, she wanted to show how the United States will be separated in twelve districys. The theme is the future of the United States. The best character is Katniss because she used to be fed poorly and now she can get spoiled with the districtr leaders. Katniss changed by caring for her family by not being around her family and trying to survive in the hunger games. "I volunteer!" screamed Katniss. Do they have most of the book used in the movie?

The book im reading is call Sold by Patricia Mccormick. Im third of the way through the book and it's about this girl who was sold to be a maid at least thats what she thought. She was sold by her step dad who gambled all there money away. This book is good because it never gets boring you alway just want to keep reading on and on and on. Patricia wrote this book to show what life is like in India for the girls that are sold into work. Most people are poor with barley any money. The main charater at this point is the narrotor and the girl thats telling the story went from being poor to living like royal. "Stupid girl" is important because it shows how mean the mean were to there wife's by calling them names. Is she ever going to see her family again?
