The Shining Bloge By Walker

The Shining begins with Jack Torrance being interviewed for a job as a caretaker for the Overlook Hotel. The hotel is closing for the winter, but can't be left unattended. Jake’s job will be to stay in the hotel through the winter. He will bring his family with him. Ullman, the Overlook's manager, wants to make sure that Jake and his family know they will be completely isolated when the snow starts falling. Jake assures Ullman that he and his family will be fine.

Ullman tells Jake about the history of the Overlook Hotel. In 1970 the caretaker, Delbert Grady, murdered his wife and two girls while in a drunken rage. Ullman knows Jake was fired from his teaching job after he lost his temper, and that he is a recovering alcoholic. Jake assures him that both his temper and his drinking are under control. Ullman gives him the job but only because of Jake's friend that is an owner of there Overlook Hotel wants him to have the job.

While at the job interview Danny and Wendy, his wife and kid. She is thinking about when Jake broke Danny's arm, and hopes he can keep a lid on his temper this time. While Wendy worries, Jake is taking a tour or the Overlook, and is told to check the boiler frequently or it will explode.

Danny is sitting on a curb in front of his house thinking about his dad which he knows isn't thinking about drinking as Wendy fears. The only reason Danny is worried about Jake drinking is that it might lead to his parents getting a divorce. When Danny thinks hard he can see Tony, who picked him up off the curb. When he does Danny can see a big building wna something chasing him with a mallet. In a room he sees the RedRum written on a mirror, in another room he see’s a women died in a bath tube.
