White Fang blog post 1

The beginning of the story describes the cold, harsh setting of the cold northern area where survival is hard. It sets up the feeling that there is always a struggle going on. Then it introduces the pack of wolves, hungry and following the dog sled team. The characters are Bill and Henry. They are out in the wild alone with dogs. They build a fire every night to keep the wolves from eating the dogs. But one night the wolves ate Bill. Then Henry was left all alone with two dogs to face the starving wolves. I thought it was too late. How could a person survive against those odds? He couldn't ever sleep because the wolves would eat him. He built a circle of fire around him. Then he tied a burning torch to his hand. Thats how he stayed alive long enough until another team found him. The leader of the wolf pack was a she wolf who was "wise to the ways of men." She knew when to come in at feeding time. She knew what rifles were. At first I thought she was White Fang, but the story went on to talk about her and the one-eyed wolf and the cubs they had together. All the cubs died but one. That one must become White Fang.
